National singles shuttler Justin Hoh faced another setback in his world ranking climb after exiting the Indonesian Masters in the second round at the Djarum Arena in Kaliputu, according to a report by The Star. The 22-year-old Malaysian fell 12-21, 20-22 to China’s Sun Chao, bringing Malaysia’s challenge in the men’s singles tournament to an end.
Indonesian Masters Second Round Exit
Throughout the year, the young shuttler has reached the quarter-finals of only two tournaments, namely the Taiwan Open and the Australian Open, highlighting ongoing struggles to secure a major breakthrough at the senior level.
Currently positioned 46th in the world rankings, Justin sits behind fellow Malaysian competitors Leong Jun Hao, who holds the 31st spot, and Lee Zii Jia, ranked 42nd. Once touted as a leading prospect for Malaysia’s singles future, Justin now faces a demanding path through lower-tier events if he aims to elevate his ranking and establish himself among international contenders.
Broader Malaysian Results in Kaliputu
Justin’s exit concluded a difficult period for the Malaysian contingent in Indonesia. Lim Ming Hong also bowed out of the men’s singles competition, losing 14-21, 12-21 to Zhu Xuanchen of China. Zhu had previously eliminated another Malaysian player, Eogene Ewe, in a three-game opening match that ended 21-13, 8-21, 21-14.
In the women’s singles draw, Oo Shan Zi exited in the second round following a 20-22, 10-21 defeat against China’s Xu Wenjing. That result followed opening-round losses earlier in the week by top seed Wong Ling Ching and Eng Ler Qi.

Malaysia’s campaign in the men’s doubles met a similar conclusion. The pair of Kang Khai Xing and Lok Hong Quan pushed South Korea’s Na Sung-seung and Wang Chan before dropping a close match 22-24, 19-21, 15-21.
