Jovent Gironí Opens New Fan Meeting Point at Palco dels Sastres for Girona Matches

El Jovent Gironí Establishes Permanent Fan Hub on Avinguda de Montilivi

El Jovent Gironí has established a permanent pre-match gathering space on Avinguda de Montilivi in Girona, Spain, creating the Palco dels Sastres to serve supporters ahead of club fixtures, diaridegirona.cat reported.

The initiative provides a dedicated community hub for matchday preparations, addressing a long-standing lack of commercial venues near the stadium while generating revenue to support the fan group’s ongoing activities.

Reviving Local Football Lore Near the Stadium

Located on Avinguda de Montilivi beside the Passera de la Riera Gornau, the new gathering spot revives the historical moniker “Palco dels Sastres.”

Joan Fonalleras, a member of the nine-year-old supporter group, noted that the title draws directly from local football lore. The original Palco dels Sastres historically described an informal viewing spot outside the stadium where resourceful spectators watched matches without purchasing tickets, and later served as a rallying point for fan support during the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

Supporters Zone Welcomes 300 People per Match

The group inaugurated the zone ahead of a fixture against Castellón, maintained operations for the subsequent match against Albacete, and prepared to welcome supporters before an upcoming clash with Mallorca.

According to organizer figures, approximately 300 individuals have attended each matchday event since the launch. Organizers selected the site after initial proposals closer to the stadium failed to secure safety clearance from club officials and the regional Mossos d’Esquadra police force, leading to a collaborative process with Girona’s municipal government to determine the current location.

Site Operates Under Municipal Permits and Schedules

Operating under a municipal permit, the site opens three hours before kickoff and must close by 11:00 p.m. local time regardless of the match schedule.

Current offerings include cold sandwiches, snacks, and various beverages, with plans to introduce hot food items and barbecue options pending further municipal permits. Transactions are available in both cash and card formats, alongside merchandise sales and club memberships. Half an hour prior to each match, attendees march together from the site toward the stadium.

Funding Tifos, Managing Costs, and Neighborhood Relations

Revenue generated at the Palco dels Sastres goes first toward covering operational liabilities before any remaining funds are channeled back into fan initiatives and club support.

Fonalleras emphasized that the project functions as a community builder rather than a commercial enterprise, noting the substantial expenses required to maintain active supporter displays. Production costs for a single tifo banner can reach approximately €2,000, while individual flares cost roughly €8 each alongside expenses for flags, drums, and away-match travel, including recent costly trips to Cádiz.

The supporter group has implemented measures to manage neighborhood relations at the site, committing to post-match cleanups, prohibiting firecrackers within the immediate zone—which are instead restricted to nearby wooded roads—and posting signage urging visitors to utilize waste receptacles and respect local residents. Organizers are currently consulting with municipal authorities regarding technical solutions to address generator noise, such as installing a permanent electrical hookup point. The group reported that visiting supporters from Castellón and Albacete participated in the pre-match gatherings without incident.
