Jonas Wendlinger’s car broken into in Leipzig

Goalkeeper Jonas Wendlinger experienced an unwelcome introduction to German football when thieves broke into his car outside a hotel in Leipzig, stealing a club-issued backpack containing Bose headphones and two jackets, according to an interview on the club podcast Lokcast.

Hotel Street Parking Incident in Leipzig

The 26-year-old Austrian goalkeeper, who signed with German Regionalliga club Lokomotive Leipzig in mid-September after leaving SV Ried, parked his vehicle on the street outside his temporary hotel accommodation. After staying in the hotel for two or three nights, Wendlinger discovered the damage early in the morning.

“I was in the hotel for two, three nights and had my car parked on the street,” Wendlinger told the club podcast Lokcast. “Am Morgen, als ich zum Frühstück gegangen bin, sprach mich eine Angestellte des Hotels an, dass sie glaube, dass in mein Auto eingebrochen wurde.” Translated from the original German interview, a hotel employee alerted him as he headed to breakfast at around 8:00 a.m. that his car window had been smashed.

Thief Targets Lokomotive Leipzig Backpack and Bose Headphones

Upon inspecting the vehicle, Wendlinger found that despite leaving two jackets on the seats and a pair of sunglasses in the glove compartment, the perpetrators targeted a very specific item. The thief made off with his Lokomotive Leipzig club backpack, which held his Bose headphones.

“That wasn’t so great at eight in the morning and somehow strange,” Wendlinger said on the podcast. “I still had two jackets in the car and sunglasses in the glove compartment. But only the Lok backpack was stolen, which someone was apparently keen on. My Bose headphones were in there too. Otherwise, I’m not missing anything. So, if anyone wants to return it, you’re welcome to do so.”

Sporting Adaptation in the Regionalliga

Away from the off-pitch disruption, Wendlinger has settled quickly into the squad at Lokomotive Leipzig. The former Ried netminder has already made three league appearances for the German fourth-tier side since completing his transfer in September.
