Four Hundred Workers Advance Interior and Exterior Work Ahead of Winter
With winter construction pressures approaching, crews maintained operations across multiple zones of the 197.300-square-meter development. The facility stands five stories high with one underground level, measuring approximately 280 meters in diameter across its circular plan.
Four entrance plazas have taken shape at the site, where workers installed exterior tiles and managed internal installations. Truss membrane installation crew leader Fan Yangqing noted that autumn conditions provided an ideal window for high-volume membrane deployment before colder temperatures complicate the process. The project’s three-tier seating bowl is largely in place, with roughly 61,000 seats planned to provide unobstructed views upon completion.
Single-Layer Cable-Membrane Roof System Spans 157 by 177 Meters
The stadium utilizes a single-layer planar spoked cable-membrane structural system, supported by 48 radial cable trusses that form a self-balancing tension network spanning 157 by 177 meters. Engineers incorporated a high-transparency PTFE grid membrane covering 16,000 square meters—reportedly the largest application of its kind in China—designed to permit adequate sunlight penetration for turf growth while reducing artificial lighting requirements.
Four years and two months after construction began in 2022, major structural milestones including the main frame, terraced seating plates, steel and cable frameworks, curtain walls, and metal roofing are essentially complete. Remaining tasks focus on interior finishes, pipeline testing, railing placement, and the final membrane segments.

Projected Mid-Year Opening Followed by Integration with Surrounding Gymnasiums
Turf installation is scheduled to follow the completion of all heavy interior trade work, with the venue expected to open by the middle of next year. The facility represents the primary soccer venue within the broader Yellow River Sports Center complex, which also incorporates an adjacent gymnasium, swimming facility, and public fitness center.
Project leadership noted that the engineering team utilized digital construction methods and green building practices throughout the build. Once operational, the complex is designed to host international soccer fixtures and serve as a prominent athletic landmark for the region.
