Former professional footballer Jhon van Beukering has been suspended from all official football duties for thirty months by the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) following a violent altercation in the player tunnel during a match between GVVV and IJsselmeervogels, Voetbalzone reported.
The incident took place on September 12, 2026, at Sportpark De Westmaat in Bunschoten-Spakenburg during a Tweede Divisie fixture. With GVVV leading 0-2 at halftime, both teams headed toward the dressing rooms, where an argument broke out in the tunnel. According to footage shared by Van Beukering on Facebook and reported across Dutch outlets, IJsselmeervogels player Quiermo Dumay entered the tunnel first. A confrontation between an IJsselmeervogels player and a GVVV player quickly escalated just outside the camera’s view. When Dumay returned to the area upon hearing the commotion, he was struck in the face by Van Beukering, suffering seven broken teeth and a bleeding face.
The Disciplinary Ruling and KNVB Sanctions
The KNVB disciplinary committee handed down the thirty-month ban after a hearing at the governing body’s headquarters in Zeist, matching the punishment demanded by the prosecutor. NOS reported that while the standard guideline for such an offense sits at eighteen months, both the prosecutor and the disciplinary committee factored in the severity of the victim’s injuries. Dumay missed approximately a month of action before returning to the pitch the week prior to the ruling. Van Beukering retains the right to appeal the decision. Prior to the final ruling, the KNVB imposed a provisional sixty-day suspension on the former forward, whose career included stints with Feyenoord, NEC, and Vitesse.

Immediate Aftermath and Club Fallout
GVVV acted swiftly following the altercation, terminating its working relationship with Van Beukering immediately. Het Amsterdamsche Voetbal noted that the club also placed head coach Dennis van Beukering—Jhon’s brother—on non-active status, though the team’s broader sporting struggles contributed to his departure. GVVV subsequently stated through club channels that Dennis van Beukering did not use physical violence during the incident. Meanwhile, the suspended match itself was later completed at Sportpark De Westmaat, with GVVV adding a third goal to secure a 0-3 final score.
