Following nine seasons together, an NBA championship in 2024, and two Finals appearances, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum appear to have parted ways on less than amicable terms, Basket USA reported. The strained dynamic between the former Boston Celtics teammates came to light following Brown’s 27-point performance in the Philadelphia 76ers’ victory against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Jaylen Brown Addresses Jayson Tatum Relationship After Sixers Win
The tension surfaced after Tatum stated in an interview that he wanted to clear the air regarding the blockbuster trade that sent Brown to Philadelphia in exchange for Paul George and four draft picks. Tatum maintained that he was as surprised by the deal as anyone and insisted there was no personal animosity between them. When reporters asked Brown about those remarks following his 27-point outing against Milwaukee, the newly acquired Sixers guard offered a measured and colorful response.
“I didn’t see all of his intervention, but I saw that he said there was no problem between us. And I think he’s right,” Brown said, according to Basket USA. “Jayson comes from a great family. We accomplished great things together. He’s a hell of a basketball player, and he has a hell of a communication team.”
Brown then leaned into wordplay, referencing the English term “beef,” which denotes both a personal dispute and cattle meat. “There’s no problem, but maybe there are a few lamb chops with a little sauce. You know what I mean? He always has to be ready.”

Tatum and Brown Clash over Roster Shakeup
The public back-and-forth began when Tatum addressed the offseason transaction in a video appearance, expressing surprise over the roster shakeup. Brown responded on social media using a baseball cap emoji—using the American slang term “cap” to accuse someone of lying.
“This is not Shaq and Kobe. There is no problem between us,” Tatum said previously, dismissing comparisons to the former Los Angeles Lakers legends Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant. The Celtics forward added that he understood manufactured drama drives clicks and views, reiterating that he remained open to a direct conversation to clear the air.

Brown, however, indicated he is in no rush to smooth things over behind closed doors. “We both have a lot ahead of us. He has to do what he has to do for his team, and I for mine,” Brown said, before reiterating his remark about Tatum’s public relations support.
First On-Court Meeting Scheduled for November
The two former co-stars are scheduled for their first on-court meeting on November 10, when the Boston Celtics visit Philadelphia to face the 76ers.
