World number one Jannik Sinner is considering adding former world number two Magnus Norman to his coaching staff, with a potential partnership taking shape for the 2027 season. The anticipated appointment would see the 50-year-old Swedish coach step in as a replacement for current Australian coach Darren Cahill, according to reporting by The Times.
Magnus Norman Approaches Coaching Crossroads After Wawrinka Era
The potential move comes as the illustrious 13-year partnership between Norman and fellow Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka nears its conclusion. Throughout Wawrinka’s career, Norman consistently maintained that he would not train any other player while the three-time Grand Slam champion remained active on the professional tennis circuit. However, with Wawrinka approaching his retirement from professional competition, Norman faces a major career decision following multiple lucrative inquiries from the top tier of men’s tennis.
Alongside interest from Sinner’s camp, Norman has also been approached by other top-ten players on the ATP Tour, including Danish player Holger Rune, according to The Times. Despite the high-profile overtures, Norman has not yet made a formal commitment to any player for the upcoming seasons.

Norman Plans to Travel and Manage His Academy
Speaking about his post-coaching future roughly a year ago during the Swiss Indoors tournament, Norman outlined a different trajectory. In an interview with the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper, he expressed a primary desire to step away from the grueling touring schedule once “Stan The Man” officially hung up his racquet.
“In this moment, I feel the need to take time for myself after this period,” Norman explained to the Swiss publication. He noted that his immediate focus would not be taking on a new player immediately, but rather traveling the world and managing his established tennis academy in Sweden. Sinner’s persistent pursuit, however, has fundamentally shifted those initial retirement plans.

Final Tournaments for Wawrinka and Norman
Before any new coaching chapter officially begins, Norman is expected to accompany Wawrinka through the final months of the veteran’s career. The long-standing duo is scheduled to compete at tournaments in Lyon and Basel in October, marking the definitive closing chapters of a partnership that secured major titles and deep Grand Slam runs over more than a decade.
