Jan Zíka ended his prolonged scoring drought with a 25th-minute strike to help FK Mladá Boleslav secure a victory over FK Teplice, lifting the club to third place in the incomplete standings.
Breaking the Drought and Raising the Standard
Playing in his third league season, Zíka has scored once in each of them.

“It weight lifted off my shoulders, lately I was too rushed in finishing,” Zíka said after the final whistle. “Now I’m playing a position lower, but I find myself up there in almost every match. I’m glad I broke through today, and I think it’s going to fall in more often now. I hope to raise my standard a lot.”
The strike arrived in the 25th minute when Zíka met a played-out corner kick and curled a technical effort toward the far post. “I wanted to tighten it more, but it had a good direction. It went in by centimeters,” he said.
Tactical Adjustments Under Manager Majer
During the opening 45 minutes, manager Majer actively directed Zíka from the sideline to maintain structural discipline against a stubborn Teplice defensive block.

“The instructions were that we should hold the center of the pitch because we were rotating quite a bit, we wanted to get that Teplice block moving,” Zíka explained. “I was supposed to be lower and Kozlík [David Kozel] higher. They told us that emphatically at halftime.”
The victory provides a vital response for the team following defeats against Plzeň and Bohemka. Zíka noted that the dressing room viewed those previous setbacks as dropped points, making the home win an absolute necessity regardless of the overall performance level.
Home Form and Upcoming Hybrid Turf Installation
The win marks Mladá Boleslav’s fifth home league victory—a sequence the club has not achieved since 2019, when it succeeded eight times in a row. Zíka credited the familiar conditions for bolstering the team’s combination-heavy playing style.

“It helps us a lot that we have great grass here, where we play great,” Zíka said. “Our entire game, combinational and technical, stems from that. And home is home, every footballer will say that.”
The club’s playing surface is scheduled for a significant technical upgrade ahead of their upcoming cup round of 16 fixture against Bohemians 1905 in late October. A specialized contractor will stitch synthetic fibers directly into the existing natural turf rather than replacing the entire pitch. Once completed, Mladá Boleslav will join Slavia, Sparta, Plzeň, Liberec, and Hradec Králové as clubs utilizing hybrid playing surfaces in the Czech league.
