The Italian national baseball team heads to Barcelona for the Premier 12 qualification tournament, aiming to secure a spot in the global tournament through a schedule running from October 9 to October 11, OA Sport reported.
Training Camp in the Dominican Republic
To prepare for the Catalan qualifiers, the squad completed an extensive training camp in the Dominican Republic. The program featured rigorous daily workouts and test matches against local teams designed to evaluate roster depth and player conditioning under competitive stress.
Manager Francisco Cervelli outlined the primary objective of the Caribbean trip in statements released by the Federazione Italiana Baseball Softball (FIBS). He noted that the travel provided an invaluable developmental environment both on and off the diamond, fulfilling the federation’s goal of building readiness for the upcoming qualification matches.

Manager Assessment on Player Condition
Evaluating the exhibition fixtures, Cervelli emphasized that final scores took a backseat to individual execution and physical readiness. He stated that he was satisfied with how the roster handled game situations and demonstrated steady improvement across various phases of play.
“In these matches, the final result was superfluous and didn’t count particularly,” Cervelli said through the FIBS site. “The important thing was to see the attitude of the guys and see their condition. I was satisfied because they always held the field well, always improving in some aspect. This was very important and allows us to arrive with confidence for the upcoming matches that are the ones that matter.”
The camp also featured hands-on instruction from former major leaguers who joined the technical staff. Cervelli highlighted the unique dynamic of working alongside players he once shared a field with as active competitors, now passing down practical insights to the pitching staff and position players.
