Iron Maiden will close its global Run for Your Lives anniversary tour with two sold-out concerts at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile, drawing fans across October 31 and November 1, 2026, Rockaxis reported.
Half a Century of the Heavy Metal Pioneer
Steve Harris founded Iron Maiden in the working-class back rooms of Stratford in 1975, amid British coal strikes and widespread social uncertainty. Rejecting the nihilism and three-chord minimalism of the contemporary punk movement, the bassist pursued an intricate melodic style inspired by progressive rock acts like Genesis and Jethro Tull.
The group financed its first demo, The Soundhouse Tapes, in 1978 for 200 pounds out of pocket. Its self-released vinyl copies sold out by mail in under a week, establishing an underground following before major labels took notice. Following early lineup shifts, the arrival of vocalist Paul Di’Anno solidified a gritty, aggressive delivery on the self-titled 1980 debut and its 1981 successor, Killers. Bruce Dickinson replaced Di’Anno at the end of 1981, ushering in an era of rapid studio output and massive international tours.
Health Struggles Impact the Lineup for 2026 Tour
Decades of relentless touring have taken a heavy physical toll on the lineup. Dickinson recovered from tongue and throat cancer diagnosed in 2014, while drummer Nicko McBrain suffered a stroke in January 2023 that paralyzed his right side and ultimately forced him to step down from the kit for the current anniversary cycle. Radio Futuro director and journalist Rainiero Guerrero noted that the band’s longevity carries a profound sociological weight beyond simple musical output, reflecting deep roots within contemporary society.
Nuclear guitarist Sebastián Puente pointed to the band’s resilience during past operational setbacks, recalling how members traveled by bus across Chile in 2016 to honor tour dates after a transport breakdown. Maiden Chile president Jorge Ahués acknowledged the bittersweet nature of the upcoming Santiago performances, noting that the absence of McBrain will introduce a palpable sense of nostalgia even as fans celebrate the milestone.

Rockaxis Renews Its Definitive Archive

The free digital issue contextualizes the group’s early underground roots alongside its current stadium-scale farewell performances.
What Remains Unresolved Ahead of Santiago
While the Estadio Nacional dates on October 31 and November 1, 2026, represent the confirmed conclusion of the current tour routing, the band has scheduled a broader programming recess for 2027.
