Peruvian tennis player Ignacio Buse has concluded his singles and doubles campaigns at the ATP 500 in Beijing, dropping his opening-round matches before pivoting his Asian swing toward the upcoming Rolex Shanghai Masters. The 22-year-old world No. 35 suffered a straight-sets defeat to France’s Quentin Halys in singles action before falling alongside Italian partner Flavio Cobolli in the doubles draw.
Defeat in Beijing Sets New Course for Shanghai
Ignacio Buse wrapped up his tournament appearance in the Chinese capital after a three-set loss in the opening round of the doubles competition. Teaming up with Italy’s Flavio Cobolli, Buse dropped a tight encounter to Portugal’s Francisco Cabral and American JJ Tracy by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 10-5. The Indo-Peruvian tandem claimed the opening frame before Cabral and Tracy leveled the match and secured the decisive super tie-break after one hour and 17 minutes of play, according to match reports. Cobolli, ranked seventh in the singles world ranking, also exited the Chinese ATP 500 across both disciplines.
That doubles exit compounded a difficult singles debut for Buse earlier in the week. On Thursday, the Lima native faced Frenchman Quentin Halys at the National Tennis Center, losing 6-1, 7-6(3) in one hour and 26 minutes. Agencia EFE noted that Buse fought back from a 4-2 deficit in the second set to force a tiebreak, but Halys reeled off nine aces and claimed 81 percent of his first-serve points to close out the victory. Buse leaves Beijing without recording a match win in either modality.

Transition to the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena
Following his exit from the ATP 500 event in Beijing, Buse turns his attention to the outdoor hard courts of the Rolex Shanghai Masters. The main draw runs from October 7 through October 18, featuring a 96-player singles field and a 32-team doubles bracket.
Building Momentum from Recent Elite Experiences
The current stretch of hard-court events comes on the heels of a milestone-filled season for the Peruvian No. 1, which included capturing an ATP 250 title at Winston-Salem and representing Peru in Davis Cup competition. Earlier in the autumn, Buse traveled to London as an alternate for Team World at the Laver Cup. Reflecting on that experience in an interview with the ATP Tour reported by La República, Buse emphasized the educational value of observing elite players up close.
Buse said of his time alongside the world’s top competitors.

Following his debut appearance in Shanghai, Buse’s autumn itinerary shifts to indoor hard courts in Europe. The Peruvian is scheduled to compete in the ATP 500 in Vienna from October 26 to November 1, followed immediately by the Rolex Paris Masters from November 2 to November 8.
Buse Seeks First Victory at Rolex Shanghai Masters
Buse’s immediate focus remains locked on the opening rounds in China. The main draw matches for the Rolex Shanghai Masters begin on October 7, 2026, at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena, where the world No. 35 will seek his first main-draw victory of the Asian swing.
