Across Long Island, high school fall sports schedules intensified mid-week with tightly contested matches in girls volleyball, boys and girls soccer, field hockey, and boys badminton.

North Shore Rallies Past Floral Park in Five Sets

Trailing two sets to none, North Shore engineered a five-set comeback against Floral Park on Wednesday. Delaney Strecker supported the attack with 25 assists, two kills, and an ace. Lily Bombardiere chipped in 15 digs alongside three aces, while Kaitlyn Dobyns added three kills, two blocks, and two aces.

North Babylon High vs Walt Whitman High School Boys' Varsity Soccer

In Suffolk II girls volleyball, Commack defeated Whitman 3-1 behind 23 digs and 11 aces from Ava Khan. Commack improved to 6-5 with set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-16. Natalie Pisani contributed seven kills and four blocks, and Olivia Pagano tallied 12 assists and four aces.

Sachem East pushed its record to 11-1 in Suffolk II with a straight-set victory over North Babylon, 25-12, 25-20, 25-13. Bridget Hansen paced the winners with 13 kills, nine digs, eight assists, and five aces, while Avery Thurston added six kills and five digs. Meanwhile, in Suffolk III, Newfield improved to 7-5 with a 3-1 win over Deer Park. Sophia DeVita posted 19 digs, 18 assists, and nine kills. Vitalina Paknis notched 19 kills, 15 digs, four blocks, and two aces, and Mya Quinones added 11 kills and five digs.

Ward Melville and Comsewogue Secure Soccer Shutouts

Ward Melville blanked North Babylon 2-0 in Suffolk II boys soccer on the strength of a first-half goal from Ryan Glennon, assisted by Jacob Feldman. Myles Weber sealed the result in the second half by heading in a corner kick from Chase Ukeiley. James Wright recorded seven saves to secure his second clean sheet of the fall, matching the seven saves made by North Babylon goalkeeper Gianluca Turano.

In girls soccer non-league action, Cold Spring Harbor defeated Roslyn 2-1 as Alexandra Rossen and Brooke Giblin scored, and Ainsley Dircks provided an assist. Avery Minsky scored the lone goal for Roslyn. In Suffolk I, Sachem East topped Connetquot 3-1 behind a goal and an assist each from Charlotte Furey and Aubree Ellis. Hailey Brennan also scored for Sachem East, and Gabriella Arculeo added an assist. Morgan Mandracchia scored for Connetquot. Bay Shore earned a 2-1 win over Lindenhurst in Suffolk I when Julie Norena scored the go-ahead goal in the 73rd minute off an assist from Aaliyah Jiminez. Leah Mendolia opened the scoring for Bay Shore in the first half, while Marissa Snipp scored for Lindenhurst and Natalia Pacholska made eight saves.

East Islip and Eastport-South Manor Dominate Field Hockey Pitch

Aubree Jones netted a hat trick to power East Islip to a 4-0 victory over Pierson/Bridgehampton/Ross in Suffolk II field hockey. Emily Mooney contributed a goal and an assist. Goalkeepers Brooke McCally and Emily Saccone combined for five saves to preserve the shutout. Caroline Gregor stopped six shots for Pierson/Bridgehampton/Ross.

Valley Stream District Edges Wheatley in Badminton Thriller

Valley Stream District edged Wheatley 4-3 in Nassau II boys badminton to improve to 11-1 on the season. The decisive point came at second doubles, where Awais Anees and Alex Mazalkov defeated Ray Wei and Darren Hou 21-15, 21-14. Abed Dihan added a crucial singles victory for Valley Stream District, holding off Aaron Shin 21-17, 21-19 at third singles.
