Canarian mixed martial arts fighter Hecher Sosa is targeting a return to the UFC Octagon on November 28 in Saudi Arabia, following an extended layoff that has tested his patience since his promotional debut in March. Known as the “Guanche Warrior,” the bantamweight contender has spent recent months juggling a busy schedule of entrepreneurial ventures and fight matchmaking efforts while awaiting his next promotional assignment.
Training for a Late-November Return
Sosa debuted in the UFC this past March with a victory against Luan Lacerda on short notice. Since that win, he has actively pushed for another booking, experiencing a frustrating gap in his competitive calendar. Speaking to ABC, Sosa noted that his representatives have assured him a fight will materialize before the end of the year, with a November 28 card in Saudi Arabia emerging as the most likely landing spot.
“My representative has assured me I’m fighting before the year ends, so I’m ready to fight whoever, whenever,” Sosa said, noting that he prefers a full training camp of roughly eight weeks rather than another short-notice appearance.
Business Ventures Conflict with UFC Fight Dates
While sidelined from UFC competition, Sosa has channeled his energy into business projects, including the launch of his own MMA promotion, the Guanche Warriors Championship, and a clothing line. While he views these ventures as vital preparation for life after fighting, the dual focus has created friction with his competitive ambitions.
Sosa explained that he previously turned down specific dates in September because they conflicted with the debut event of his promotion, and maintains that he has never turned down an opponent—only calendar dates that conflicted with his organizational duties. His home island of Lanzarote has rallied behind his athletic and promotional work, which he hopes will inspire local youth.
Future Bantamweight Targets
Looking past his anticipated November return, Sosa outlined an ambitious schedule for 2027, aiming for three fights within the calendar year alongside two events for his own promotion. In the UFC bantamweight division, where he noted the roster depth is immense, he expressed interest in facing opponents who bring high-action styles, specifically naming Aori Qileng or Long Xiao.
“I would like to fight Aori Qileng, he’s an adversary who goes forward, to the war, or else Long Xiao, who has four fights in the company and I only have one,” Sosa said.
Stepping Away from the Cage for Film
In addition to his promotional work and training camps in April and May, Sosa expanded his resume outside combat sports by participating in the filming of an upcoming project alongside Spanish actor Mario Casas. Describing the experience as a demanding introduction to acting, Sosa expressed deep respect for the profession while keeping his primary focus locked on returning to professional mixed martial arts.
