The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has initiated an open search for a new head coach of its national men’s football team, inviting interested candidates to submit applications via email. The move marks a departure from standard recruitment practices, as the four-time African champions seek a successor following the tenure of Carlos Queiroz, according to a report by Volksstimme.
Establishing a Transparent Selection Process
The GFA stated that the objective of this public recruitment drive is to ensure a transparent selection process for the vacant position. Once the application period concludes, a five-member expert committee will evaluate the candidates. This committee is led by Anthony Baffoe, a former professional footballer who played in the German Bundesliga for Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Managing Recent Instability in the National Team
The search for a new coach follows a period of significant volatility for the Black Stars. Carlos Queiroz took over the head coaching duties in April, following a test match defeat to Germany that ended the tenure of previous coach Otto Addo. Despite an initial announcement that he would step down after the World Cup—where Ghana’s campaign concluded in the round of 32—the Portuguese manager later reversed that decision. However, following two additional losses during the qualification process for the Africa Cup of Nations, the GFA and the coach permanently parted ways.

Expert Committee Oversight
The responsibility for identifying the next leader of the national squad rests with the committee chaired by Baffoe. The GFA has not disclosed a specific deadline for the application process, but the committee is tasked with vetting the incoming pool of applicants to fill the void left by the departure of Queiroz.
Five-Person Panel Will Assess GFA Applications
While the GFA has opened the application process to the public, the final decision remains subject to the assessment of the five-person panel. The GFA is expected to provide further updates on the appointment once the committee completes its review of the submitted applications.
