Sergio Ramos could make a sensational return to La Liga with Getafe after club president Ángel Torres confirmed ongoing talks with the defender’s agent.
Ángel Torres Confirms Talks With Ramos’s Representative
Getafe president Ángel Torres revealed during an appearance on Radio Nacional’s Tablero Deportivo program that the club has been evaluating a potential move for the veteran center-back. Torres stated that Ramos is on the club’s list of potential acquisitions and confirmed that discussions have already taken place with the player’s brother and agent, René Ramos.
Despite the active dialogue, Torres tempered expectations regarding the immediate timeline of a potential transfer. While Ramos is unattached and can legally be signed outside of standard transfer windows, adding another central defender is not currently the club’s primary objective. Torres noted that Getafe is instead prioritizing reinforcements for the wings, a search that includes former Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho as a candidate.
Ramos Aims to Continue Career After Monterrey Exit
Ramos last played a competitive fixture in December 2025 during his stint with CF Monterrey. Following the conclusion of his contract with the Liga MX club, he became a free agent on January 1 and has indicated no intention of retirement despite his age. Torres remarked that it is “not too late” for the veteran defender, leaving the door open for a January move should Getafe require additional depth in central defense.
Throughout his decorated career, Ramos made 671 competitive appearances for Real Madrid and won four UEFA Champions League titles. He also earned 180 caps for the Spain national team, winning two European Championships and the 2010 FIFA World Cup. His professional journey has included spells with Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Monterrey.
Potential Reunion With Dani Carvajal at Getafe
If Ramos completes a move to the Coliseum, he would join recently signed teammate Dani Carvajal, who finalized his transfer to the Madrid-based club last week. Carvajal, 34, signed with the Azulones to bolster their defensive options. The two players previously shared the pitch in 236 matches for Real Madrid and Spain, capturing four Champions League titles together before Carvajal secured two additional European crowns after Ramos’s departure from the Santiago Bernabéu.
