The Germany national football team has slipped to 13th place in the latest FIFA world ranking, falling one spot further down following the team’s tournament run in the United States, according to recent updates. Prior to the competition, the squad sat in 10th position, but elimination in the round of 32 pushed the team out of the international top ten.
Nations League Struggles Drive Ranking Drop
The continued slide in the global standings stems from a difficult start to the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign. Across their opening four fixtures in Group B, the German side managed only a single 2-0 victory against Serbia alongside a 1-0 defeat to Greece, a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, and a scoreless draw against Greece. Those results yielded just five out of a possible 12 points, leaving the team in third place within their group.
Switzerland Surpasses DFB Squad in Standings
Switzerland overtook Germany in the updated classification after moving up one position. The DFB team has not occupied a position higher than ninth since the group-stage exit at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. That stagnation contrasts sharply with the period between their 2014 World Cup victory and 2018, when Germany frequently claimed the number-one ranking.
Spain Expands Lead as Portugal Climbs to Fifth
At the very top of the FIFA table, reigning world champion Spain expanded its lead. Argentina, France, and England retained positions two through four respectively. Portugal registered the most notable upward movement among the elite tier, climbing two spots to fifth place. Meanwhile, Brazil dropped to sixth and Morocco slipped to seventh. Belgium, the Netherlands, and Mexico round out the top ten without month-over-month changes.
