German U15 Talents Secure Two Medals at European Championships

German youth badminton players secured two medals at the U15 European Championships in Sotra, Norway, after advancing to the semifinals in both the mixed doubles and girls’ doubles events, according to reports from badminton.de.

Mixed Doubles Success for Hintze and Block

Matti Hintze and Ineke Block advanced to the mixed doubles semifinals without dropping a single set throughout the tournament. Following an eighth-finals victory over the third-seeded Danish pair T. Riis and K. Mortensen, the German duo defeated Turkey’s M. Ercetin and A. Cinkir 21-14, 21-14 in the quarterfinals.

North Rhine-Westphalia head coach Benjamin Tzschoppe highlighted the pair’s consistency on court. “Matti and Ineke are playing a very confident tournament,” Tzschoppe said, noting that they have kept opponents at a distance by executing their strengths effectively.

Block and Xu Battle Through in Girls’ Doubles

The road to the semifinals proved more demanding for Ineke Block and Ruby Xu in the girls’ doubles bracket. In the eighth finals against Czech opponents D. Audy and K. Maradová, Block and Xu dropped the opening set before recovering to win 19-21, 21-18, 21-12.

The quarterfinal match against fourth-seeded Danish pair R. Callesen and M. Toftgaard went the distance as well. After claiming a tight 23-21 first set and dropping the second, the German pair secured the deciding set 21-17. Tzschoppe pointed to the importance of making correct decisions under pressure and noted that the team capitalized on crucial moments.

Tough Quarterfinal Exit for Berthold and Schröder

Alfred Berthold and Theodor Schröder exited the tournament in the boys’ doubles quarterfinals. Matched against Sweden’s V. Falkelius and A. Li, the German duo stayed competitive through much of the opening set before losing 19-21, 14-21.

Tzschoppe assessed the performance of the Saxony-coached pair positively despite the scoreline, stating that the result appeared more one-sided than the actual match flow while acknowledging a lack of final execution in the closing stages of the first set.

Saturday Semifinal Matchups in Sotra

Both remaining German pairings return to the court on Saturday to contest their respective semifinal fixtures in Sotra. Hintze and Block face top-seeded English combination R. Le Masurier and A. Dodkins at 9:00 a.m. local venue time, while Block and Xu square off against second-seeded French pair C. Menegazzi Briquet and L. Prevost.
