Forest Green Rovers has launched legal action against Peterborough United over the League One club’s approach for former manager Robbie Savage. The Welshman left Gloucestershire earlier this month, sparking a fierce dispute between the clubs over alleged illegal tapping up.
The fallout between Forest Green Rovers and Peterborough United centers on the departure of Robbie Savage, who exited his managerial post on October 2 to take charge at the League One side. Forest Green owner Dale Vince announced the legal proceedings through a video on social media, accusing the opposing club of improperly bypassing official channels to secure their new boss.
Dale Vince and Forest Green Rovers Launch Legal Proceedings
Forest Green has officially begun a legal process for the tapping up of our manager, now ex-manager, Robbie Savage, according to the club’s owner. Savage arrived in Gloucestershire in July 2025 following a successful stint at Macclesfield FC. During his only full season at the helm, he guided Forest Green to the play-offs before a defeat against Boreham Wood ended their promotion run.
When Savage left on October 2, the team sat 13th in the standings after 11 matches. Vince revealed that he initially blocked Peterborough from speaking with the manager, only to relent after learning the club had already engaged with Savage directly.
Disputed Approaches and Club Claims
The dispute hinges on conflicting accounts of how the managerial switch unfolded.
Responding on social media, Posh chairman Darren MacAnthony wrote on X that the process to appoint a new manager was 100% correct and proper, following all the rules
. Peterborough United offered no comment on the legal action when contacted by BBC Sport, standing by their earlier denials.
