Five Bundesliga professionals secure 2026 Golden Boy spots, per Transfermarkt

Five Bundesliga professionals have secured their places in the final 25-player shortlist for the 2026 Golden Boy award, with three of those remaining talents holding German nationality, according to data published by Transfermarkt in collaboration with the Italian sports daily Tuttosport.

Bundesliga Places Five Players into Final Selection

The annual award evaluates Europe’s top young talents based on standout performances for their clubs and national teams throughout the calendar year. To be eligible, players must have been born from 2006 and must compete in one of the 25 strongest top-tier leagues in Europe during the evaluation period. Transfermarkt reported that the Bundesliga places five players into the final selection: Lennart Karl of Bayern Munich, Konstantinos Karetsas and Joane Gadou of Borussia Dortmund, Said El Mala of 1. FC Köln, and Finn Jeltsch of VfB Stuttgart.

Across Europe’s broader landscape, the English Premier League leads all competitions with eight players in the final 25, followed closely by Spain’s LaLiga with six representatives, as outlined by Transfermarkt. When examining the national origins of the finalists, Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly stands alone as the sole English talent to reach the final stage. Conversely, Spain dominates the nationality count, led by Real Sociedad’s Jon Martín alongside the Barcelona trio of Xavi Espart, Marc Bernal, and Pau Cubarsí.

Yan Diomande Holds Highest Market Valuation

Among the finalists, Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí commands a market valuation of 100 million euros, positioning him as the most valuable defender globally and establishing him as a primary favorite for the Golden Boy distinction, as noted by Transfermarkt data. Real Madrid’s Yan Diomande boasts the highest individual market valuation among the entire 25-player shortlist at 120 million euros.

Transfermarkt tracks these prospects using a specialized scoring model that has reassessed Europe’s 100 leading talents on a monthly basis since May 20. The final cut consists of the 20 professionals who accumulated the highest scores, supplemented by five wildcard selections. The wildcard recipients for this cycle include Rodrigo Mora of AS Roma, Franco Mastantuono of Fiorentina, Barcelona academy product Xavi Espart, Joane Gadou, and Charalampos Kostoulas of Brighton & Hove Albion. Aside from Espart, every player in the wildcard group completed a multi-million-euro club transfer during 2025 or 2026.

Total Transfer Spending on Nominees

Financial movement surrounding the finalist pool reflects substantial investment by elite clubs. Transfermarkt records show that transfer fees have been paid for 18 of the 25 nominated players, accumulating a combined total of 736 million euros in transfer expenditures.

International Jury Selects Winner to Succeed Recent Recipients

An international jury of sports experts will ultimately select the winner who will succeed recent recipients Désiré Doué in 2025, Lamine Yamal in 2024, and Jude Bellingham in 2023, according to Transfermarkt.
