Wales record-breaker Jess Fishlock and former national team manager Chris Coleman were inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame at a gala in Cardiff, receiving honors alongside other Welsh football greats during the Football Association of Wales 150th anniversary year.
Jess Fishlock has entered the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame as she prepares to finish her playing career.
Fishlock, 39, will retire from club football at the end of the season. She has already stepped away from the international game holding the record for more appearances and goals than any other Welsh player.
Cardiff Gala Celebrates Welsh Football Legends
Fishlock was hailed at the Cardiff event as the country’s best ever footballer.
She was honored alongside Chris Coleman, the manager who oversaw Wales’ historic run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals.
The celebrations coincided with the 150th anniversary year of the Football Association of Wales, marking the milestone in front of former inductees that included Wales rugby great Sir Gareth Edwards.
New Inductees Join Historic Welsh Ranks
Former Swansea City attacker Alan Curtis joined the new honorees in Cardiff alongside former Burnley winger and Wales Under-21 boss Brian Flynn. The late group consisting of goalkeeper Dai Davies, winger Leighton James, and former Liverpool and Wrexham full-back Joey Jones also received recognition for their part in the 1976 national team that made it to the final eight of the European Championships.
Mickey Thomas collected Joey Jones’ award during the event. Thomas was visibly emotional and was himself honoured for a 51-cap career that included stints representing Manchester United, Chelsea, and Wrexham.
