Ferrari’s first-ever ocean-racing sailboat, named Hypersail, is scheduled to launch during the final week of March 2027 in Livorno, Italy, with a design engineered to fly across water at speeds reaching 100 kilometers per hour. Constructed inside a sealed shipyard near Camp Darby, the 100-foot monohull incorporates twenty patents and features aerodynamic solutions drawn from Maranello road car design, including the F80 and Luce models, according to technical team leader Marco Ribigini.
Inside the Maranello Shipyard
Security protocols at the production site require workers and visitors to wear safety helmets and footwear while covering mobile phone lenses with red Cavallino Rampante stickers to protect industrial secrets. Under those restrictions, the project takes shape as a slender structure supported by scaffolding, lacking its mast, sails, and hydrodynamic foils during final assembly. Naval architect Guillaume Verdier designed the vessel, combining automotive aerodynamics with ocean racing architecture to challenge the times set by massive ocean-going trimaran platforms.
Engineering the Flying Monohull
The boat utilizes a configuration featuring three primary points of support: two lateral foils and a tilting keel with a 35-degree range of movement. Engineers developed a dual mainsail system comprising two layers that adjust sail curvature and wind power dynamically. The hull relies on Hypersail gray paint that shifts to an ash-black tint under changing light conditions, alongside historical Maranello fly yellow accents. Ribigini noted that the ultra-lightweight exterior finish applies less than 200 grams of coating per square meter to preserve performance metrics.
Dimensions and Technical Specifications
The vessel measures 30.5 meters in length—equivalent to a ten-story building laid horizontally—with a 35.5-meter mast matching the wingspan of a Boeing 777. Its 462 square meters of sail area equals the combined surface of two tennis courts. Three wind turbines mounted on the uninstalled rear wing will work alongside 100 square meters of solar panels capable of generating 20 kilowatts of electrical power. Carbon fiber remains exposed solely along the side hull where the Hypersail name is inscribed.
Living Quarters and Crew Demands
Two symmetrical sliding doors provide access to an aft habitation area containing sleeping hammocks configured for four-hour rotation shifts, a compact bathroom, and a galley space designed strictly for basic survival rather than food preparation. Six three-speed winches operated by manual grinders will drive the rigging, omitting the cyclor pedal systems utilized in previous America’s Cup campaigns. Project director Enrico Voltolini, who took over leadership following the departure of Giovanni Soldini, has recruited sailors including Giulia Conti, with the crew required to wear helmets and radio microphones to communicate through the high-amplitude noise of high-speed ocean navigation.

Timeline and Launch Details
Components continue to arrive from international suppliers ahead of the scheduled March 2027 debut in Livorno, with the mast slated for delivery from New Zealand in November and sails manufactured in California. The keel and appendages await final integration at an adjacent facility while technical crews prepare the vessel for its initial water contact and subsequent record-seeking trials.
