Public voting for the felix Award is currently underway, giving sports fans until November 3 to select their favorite athletes and teams across six categories. Regional sports officials organize the annual honors to celebrate elite performances from the country’s most populous federal state, culminating in a formal gala later in the autumn.
The state government, the Landessportbund Nordrhein-Westfalen, and the Sportstiftung NRW jointly established the awards program in 2007 to recognize exceptional athletic achievements and prominent sports personalities from the region.
Six Categories Open for Public Balloting
Voters across North Rhine-Westphalia can choose from five shortlisted nominees in six distinct competitive categories. The public ballot covers the awards for Team of the Year, Sportsman of the Year, Sportswoman of the Year, Para Sport Felix, Newcomer of the Year, and Football Felix.
While the public decides the winners across those six fields, the Coach of the Year accolade follows a different selection process. Organizers confirmed that an independent jury composed of previous award recipients selects the top coach in advance, excluding that specific honor from the online ballot.
Düsseldorf Gala Scheduled for Late November
The competition culminates on November 27 when the winners are formally announced during a high-profile sports gala at the Rheinterrasse venue in Düsseldorf. The evening features an entertainment program alongside the presentation of the trophies to the region’s top competitors.

WestLotto returns as the primary corporate sponsor supporting the celebratory event. Organizers also use the public ballot to incentivize fan participation, offering five participants a prize of two tickets each to attend the Düsseldorf award show.
The Selection Timeline and Unresolved Questions Ahead of the Gala
With public voting scheduled to run until November 3, the identity of the nominees shortlisted across the individual categories remains a central point of interest for regional sports observers.
Following the close of the online ballot on November 3, the independent jury will finalize its selection for the Coach of the Year award ahead of the November 27 ceremony in Düsseldorf.
