Ex-Club Brugge Defender Siemen Voet Scores Four Goals in Seven Games for Saarbrücken

Former Club Brugge youth product Siemen Voet has emerged as an unlikely goalscoring leader in the German 3. Liga, netting four goals in his first seven league appearances for 1.FC Saarbrücken.

An Unprecedented Scoring Run in Saarland

Siemen Voet has taken a surprising path to becoming the top goalscorer for 1.FC Saarbrücken. Following a summer transfer from 1860 München, the 26-year-old Belgian central defender has found the back of the net four times across his opening seven league matches, establishing himself as the most prolific defender in the 3. Liga.

Despite his defensive position, Voet’s output has surprised even him. In an interview with liga3-online, the defender noted that he has never scored as many goals as he has at FCS. When asked for an explanation for his sudden scoring touch, he joked about the air in Saarland, adding that he tries not to overthink it while the ball keeps going in.

From Club Brugge Academy to the Champions League

Voet’s journey to Germany included stops across multiple European leagues. After developing through the youth academy at Club Brugge, he sought first-team opportunities elsewhere, playing for KV Mechelen, PEC Zwolle, and Fortuna Sittard before moving to Slovan Bratislava. During his time in Slovakia, Voet featured in the UEFA Champions League, squaring off against Spanish side Atlético Madrid.

He later characterized that spell in Bratislava as both a highlight and a low point, noting that he suddenly disappeared from the team shortly after competing on Europe’s biggest stage. A subsequent transfer brought him to 1860 München, where he established himself as a regular starter by making 37 appearances in a single season.

Securing Points in the Final Seconds

Saarbrücken capitalized on problems at 1860 München last summer to secure the defender’s signature. That move has paid immediate dividends on the pitch, highlighted by a dramatic late winner against Sonnenhof Großaspach that sealed a 2-1 victory.

“Every player hopes that he scores in the last second and the stadium completely explodes,” Voet said of the decisive moment.

The contrast with his previous club is stark.
