Émile Lelaidier appears on La France a un Incroyable Talent

Martial arts instructor Émile Lelaidier brings his signature technique of breaking baseball bats with his bare shins to the television stage at age 69, appearing on the second episode of La France a un Incroyable Talent on M6. Broadcast on Wednesday, October 14, at 21:10 local time, the performance highlights a lifelong martial artist who continues to test his physical limits.

Martial Arts Career in Vitry-sur-Seine

Originally from Créteil in the Val-de-Marne department, Lelaidier teaches English boxing, mixed martial arts, and muay-thai in Vitry-sur-Seine. Over decades in combat sports, he developed a specific focus on breaking wooden baseball bats using only his tibia, often performing the feat without a prior warm-up. Describing his training philosophy, Lelaidier told BFMTV that fighting against inanimate material represents a battle against oneself without causing harm to others.

His conditioning routine involves daily athletic training. Lelaidier noted that a training trip to Thailand helped him build lower-body strength, specifically developing what he described as large calves and shins suited for impact.

The 2012 World Record and Hospital Visit

Lelaidier’s television appearance follows a documented history of high-impact demonstrations. In 2012, he broke 103 baseball bats with his tibia during a charitable event organized to benefit orphans of RATP, establishing a world record. Following that performance, he required treatment at Henri-Mondor Hospital in Créteil after losing sensation in his leg temporarily.

Despite the medical setback, he resumed training within a week, relying on essential oil massages before returning to breaking bats. He maintains that the intense physical conditioning has become a personal necessity rather than a one-time stunt.

Television Jury Evaluation on M6

The M6 talent competition, hosted by Karine Le Marchand, entered its 21st season in October. Lelaidier’s audition faced evaluation by a four-person panel consisting of singers Marianne James and Hélène Ségara, magician Éric Antoine, and comedian Sugar Sammy. Ahead of the broadcast, Lelaidier chose to keep the exact details of his stage routine confidential.

Approaching the age of 70, Lelaidier stated that his motivation for competing on the program is to demonstrate to his students that physical challenges remain achievable at any age.
