FC Bayern Munich holds genuine appeal for Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha, according to former England international striker Emile Heskey. Despite friction surrounding Bayern’s initial interest in the 18-year-old left-winger, Heskey noted that the Bundesliga club’s track record with English talent and the general pull of the Bavarian squad make a future move a distinct possibility under contract through 2028.
Emile Heskey Assesses Bayern Munich Prospects
Bayern Munich’s pursuit of Rio Ngumoha prompted mixed reactions across English football, but former England forward Emile Heskey argued that the German giants retain an undeniable allure. Speaking to the portal Rekatochklart, the 48-year-old explained that young players rarely ignore overtures from elite European sides.
“There is always a certain allure when clubs like Arsenal come knocking, and particularly with Bayern,” Heskey said. “At Bayern, you can really only be successful.”
Precedents Set By Kane, Olise, and Bellingham
Heskey pointed directly to the career trajectories of several high-profile English or Bundesliga-transferred stars as natural roadmaps for the young winger. He highlighted the impact made by Harry Kane and former Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise at the Allianz Arena, alongside the development paths forged by brothers Jude and Jobe Bellingham at Borussia Dortmund.

Rio Ngumoha logged 19 league appearances for Liverpool last season, contributing two goals. Although the forward is still searching for his first goal of the current campaign, England manager Thomas Tuchel called him up to the national team ahead of the World Cup and selected him for the ongoing international fixtures, where Ngumoha earned his second cap against the Czech Republic.
Efficiency Demanded In The Final Third
While acknowledging the teenager’s rapid ascent on both club and international stages, Heskey stressed that clear areas for improvement remain before Ngumoha commands regular consideration from elite European suitors. The former striker emphasized that raw dribbling ability must translate into end-product.
“He is a fantastic dribbler, but now he really has to focus on his efficiency in the final third — on goals, assists, and his contribution to the team,” Heskey stated.
Ngumoha Stays at Liverpool Until 2028
Despite external speculation and Bayern’s exploratory interest, Heskey considers a short-term departure from Anfield during the winter transfer window highly unlikely. Ngumoha remains tied to the Premier League club on a contract running until 2028.
“He will want to establish himself at Liverpool first before moving on,” Heskey said, though he added that “there will be temptations” for the young prospect down the line.
