David Silva reverses retirement to join Hong Kong club Sha Tin

Former Manchester City midfielder David Silva has reversed his retirement to sign with Hong Kong Premier League club Sha Tin at the age of 40.

Return to the Pitch in Hong Kong

Silva has agreed to join Sha Tin. The Spanish playmaker officially hung up his boots in 2023 after sustaining a serious knee injury during his final seasons with La Liga side Real Sociedad. His arrival brings a name to the Hong Kong top flight, where Sha Tin currently sit eighth in the league standings after four matches following their promotion last season.

Silva Shares Excitement for Hong Kong Culture

“I’m so excited to go to Hong Kong and enjoy the local culture, the food in Sha Tin and, of course, football in Hong Kong,” Silva said in a video posted to Instagram.

Silva Earns Numerous Titles with Manchester City and Spain

Before his move to Asia, Silva built a career in English football. Across a decade with Manchester City from 2010 to 2020, he made 309 Premier League appearances—the most of any player for the club. He scored 60 goals and delivered 93 assists in the competition, ranking second only to Kevin De Bruyne’s 118 for the club. During his time at the Etihad Stadium, Silva lifted four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, five EFL Cups, and two Community Shields. Internationally, he won two European Championships and the World Cup with Spain. He began his professional career with Valencia in Spain, recording 46 goal involvements across 119 La Liga appearances before his transfer to Manchester.
