Daniel Mosquera claims joint Serie B scoring lead for Hellas Verona

Daniel Mosquera scored twice for Hellas Verona in a 2-2 draw against Catanzaro during the seventh matchday of the Serie B season, lifting his season tally to six goals in just three appearances, AS Colombia reported. The Colombian forward, who previously claimed a league title with Atlético Bucaramanga in 2024, has wasted no time making an impact after recovering from a lengthy injury layoff that kept him sidelined for several months.

Operating at the Marcantonio Bentegodi stadium, Hellas Verona fell behind early when Antonio Candela opened the scoring for Catanzaro in the 11th minute with a shot past goalkeeper Simone Perilli. Mosquera leveled the match before halftime, converting a pass from Livramento in the 37th minute. He struck again in the 67th minute off an assist from Sarr to give the hosts a brief 2-1 lead. However, Catanzaro secured a point when Emanuele Pecorino converted a 75th-minute penalty, leaving the final score level at 2-2.

The Italian sports press took notice of the forward’s clinical efficiency. La Gazzetta dello Sport highlighted the performance, noting that Mosquera’s regular brace was not enough to secure all three points and questioning how Verona failed to claim a victory despite generating the greater share of offensive pressure. With his latest double, Mosquera draws level with Cesena striker Cristian Shpendi at the top of the Serie B scoring charts. Francesco Ruocco of Mantova follows closely behind with five goals.

Despite Mosquera’s prolific return—which includes previous braces against Vicenza and Modena—Hellas Verona sits in ninth place in the Serie B standings with eight points. The club continues to search for the consistency required to mount a serious challenge for promotion to Serie A. Verona’s next fixture comes against Pisa on Sunday, October 25, with kickoff scheduled for 11:15 a.m. local Colombian time.
