COSPN Signs Jorge Filipe and Ikenna Okeke for Road to BAL 2027

Seeking qualification for the Élite 16 round of the 2027 Basketball Africa League, Madagascar champion COSPN has added two experienced foreign players to its roster, fr.allafrica.com reported. The team is preparing for the East Division Group D qualifiers scheduled for October 21–25, 2026, in Hoima City, Uganda.

Roster Additions Presented at Barea Stadium

The club introduced Angolan player Jorge Filipe and American-born Nigerian player Ikenna Okeke during a press conference on Friday at Barea Stadium in Antananarivo. Both athletes join a squad led by head coach Tojo Rasamoelina as the five-time Malagasy champions finalize preparations for the continental tournament.

Rasamoelina expressed confidence in the new arrivals’ ability to integrate quickly. “These are two experienced players. On the court, they adapt very quickly and will be able to bring a plus,” Rasamoelina said.

Frontcourt and Backcourt Enhancements

Jorge Filipe, a center standing approximately 2.06 meters tall, strengthens COSPN’s interior game. His previous experience with Angolan powerhouse Petro de Luanda provides physical presence under the basket, aiding the team in duels, rebounding, and defensive schemes.

Ikenna Okeke joins the backcourt to energize the team’s perimeter play. Having previously competed in the United States and in Denmark with FOG Næstved, Okeke brings offensive versatility and playmaking skills designed to give Rasamoelina more options in the offensive build-up.

Group D Opponents and Qualification Stakes

In Group D of the East Division, COSPN faces the host nation’s Namuwongo Blazers from Uganda, Urunani Basketball Club from Burundi, and the Patriots Basketball Club from South Sudan. Following the withdrawal of the Comoros representative, four teams remain in contention for the sole qualifying spot available for the next phase of the competition.
