Chongqing is hosting both the preliminary round and the national finals of the 2026 “One City, One Camp” National Judo City Tour and National Dojo and Club Judo Championship, according to local news reports. Competition opened on October 5 at the Le-Dynamics Jiangnan Sports Center in the Nan’an District, marking the first time the municipality has served as a dual-stage host for the national grassroots judo series.
Chongqing Hosts Dual-Stage National Judo Finals
The tournament series, organized by the Chinese Judo Association, features six preliminary stops across the country, including Chengdu, Beijing, Tianjin, Changsha, Sihui, and Chongqing. The Chongqing qualifying round ran from October 3 to 4, immediately preceding the national finals held at the same venue from October 5 to 6. A total of 472 athletes representing 65 teams nationwide traveled to the Nan’an District for the four-day athletic program.
Competition spans nine age divisions, ranging from six-year-old youth competitors to adult elite divisions. Events are divided into three main categories: individual matches, team competitions, and optional judo kata demonstrations. This broad age and format structure makes the tournament one of the largest and highest-level mass judo events in the country.
Nan'an District Coordinates Venue Management and Medical Services
To support the back-to-back national events, the Nan’an District coordinated venue management, medical services, security, and traffic control across the host site. Organizers established a professional medical station equipped with emergency personnel and first-aid devices on-site, operating under an emergency response framework aligned with national sports administration guidelines.
Local teams drawn from district sports schools, primary and secondary schools, and independent clubs participated in both the preliminary and final stages. Several Chongqing-based athletes advanced through the qualifying round to earn spots in the national finals, competing for titles before local spectators. Admission to the venue was opened free of charge to the public.
Tournaments Aim to Increase Youth Judo Participation
Local organizers report that hosting the consecutive tournaments aligns with broader efforts in the Nan’an District to expand sports infrastructure, increase sports consumption, and integrate athletic events with local tourism. Officials stated that staging the high-level event aims to raise judo participation rates among youth and strengthen the district’s profile as a regional sports hub.
The championship concludes on October 6 with final medal matches and award ceremonies across all remaining weight classes and divisions.
