Patrick Mahomes remained undefeated at Allegiant Stadium as the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Las Vegas Raiders 30-27 on Sunday. Mahomes threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns, while teammate Kenneth Walker III rushed for 177 yards and two scores to lift the Chiefs to a 4-0 record.
Walker Carries Chiefs Past Raiders After Late-Game Lead Changes
The decisive blow came with 3:21 remaining in the fourth quarter when Kenneth Walker III plunged into the end zone on a 2-yard touchdown run, putting Kansas City ahead 23-19. That scoring drive was set up immediately prior by a 55-yard reception from Tyquan Thornton. Thornton hauled in five passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns on the afternoon, but suffered a left leg injury on the long catch and required a cart to leave the field.
Las Vegas mounted a determined challenge despite struggling on the ground. The Raiders managed just 72 total rushing yards at an average of 2.8 yards per carry. That optimism nearly materialized as the Raiders carried a 13-10 lead into the final quarter.
Mahomes and Reid Extend Unbeaten Runs at Allegiant Stadium
The game turned in the closing minutes of the third quarter when Walker broke loose for a 76-yard run before Raiders cornerback Taron Johnson chased him down from behind at the 8-yard line. Two plays later, Mahomes connected with Thornton for an 8-yard touchdown pass.
Las Vegas answered when kicker Matt Gay converted field goals from 44 and 48 yards out, pushing the Raiders back in front 19-17 with 4:53 left on the clock. But Mahomes orchestrated a swift response, engineering the go-ahead touchdown drive before capitalizing on a fumble during the subsequent kickoff to connect with Walker for another insurance score.
With the result, Mahomes improved to a perfect 6-0 as a starter at Allegiant Stadium against the Raiders, a venue that also hosted his Super Bowl victory following the 2023 NFL season. Meanwhile, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid collected his seventh career victory at the stadium—which opened in 2020—breaking a tie with former Raiders head coaches Josh McDaniels and Antonio Pierce to claim a 7-1 overall record in the building.
Cousins and Bowers Carry Las Vegas Offense as Win Streak Ends
Quarterback Kirk Cousins paced the Raiders with 365 passing yards and two touchdowns, snapping a personal seven-consecutive victory streak that encompassed the final four games of the previous season with the Atlanta Falcons. Tight end Brock Bowers contributed six receptions for 86 yards and a touchdown despite playing through an illness.
