Pionniers Basketball Host University of Maine at Fort Kent in Exhibition Match

The Pionniers basketball team will host the Bengals from the University of Maine at Fort Kent (UMFK) on Saturday, Oct. 10, in an exhibition game at the PEPS du Cégep de Rimouski.

The visiting Bengals compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), which serves as the equivalent of NCAA Division III. For the Rimouski squad, this matchup marks a final preseason test before the team launches its 14-game regular season schedule on Saturday, Oct. 17. The two programs previously met last season for a game in Edmundston, New Brunswick.

Pionniers Roster Focuses on Rookie Evaluation and Discipline

The Pionniers enter the contest with a 15-player roster primarily drawn from the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, including nine rookies. Rather than focusing strictly on the scoreboard, the coaching staff plans to evaluate specific internal metrics, including emotional regulation, discipline, and adherence to tactical plans under difficult conditions.

Free Admission Open to the Local Community

The exhibition tips off at 3 p.m. local time at the PEPS du Cégep de Rimouski, with free admission offered to the general public. Organizers highlighted the unique nature of the event, marking the first time a collegiate basketball program from the United States has traveled to play in Rimouski.

« Nous voulions l’offrir au public. C’est la première fois qu’une équipe des États-Unis vient jouer à Rimouski. C’est un événement qui a un caractère exceptionnel. Toute la communauté est invitée, autant les plus jeunes amateurs de basketball que les plus vieux.
