Approximately 60 athletes gathered at the Wassy gymnasium on Saturday, Oct. 10, for the Grand Est Para Badminton Adapté Championship, bringing together competitors from across the region to contest qualifying spots for the upcoming national tournament.
Wassy Gymnasium Hosts Regional Championship
The event was organized through a collaborative effort between the Castors bleus association, the Ligue Grand Est de sport adapté, and the departmental sport adapté committee. Designed to provide individuals with disabilities an opportunity to compete in structured badminton competition, the one-day meeting featured a packed schedule of matches running at a sustained pace from morning through evening.
According to reports from jhm.fr, the primary incentive for the regional competitors was securing qualification for the French Para Badminton Adapté Championships. Those national fixtures are scheduled to take place from Nov. 20 to 22 in Châlons-en-Champagne.
Podium Finishes and Castors Bleus Results
Competition across the various brackets culminated in several notable podium placements. Dolorès Bourdet claimed the highest step of the podium, capturing first place in her category. Meanwhile, Louis Garnier, Yannick Ampe, and Mathieu Nicaise all secured third-place finishes in their respective events.
The host Castors bleus association entered six athletes into the regional tournament. All six competitors finished their matches and left the Wassy venue satisfied with their on-court performances, having successfully met their competitive goals for the day.
Châlons-en-Champagne Nationals Approach
With the Grand Est regional qualifier concluded, attention shifts directly to the national stage. Qualified athletes now have a window of roughly six weeks to fine-tune their preparations before the French Para Badminton Adapté Championships open in Châlons-en-Champagne on Nov. 20.
