More than 50 participants attended trial sessions this season as fitness and badminton classes experience a rise in participation at the CALCCM, according to local reporting.
Weekly Fitness Classes Draw Over Fifty Participants
Group fitness offerings at the local community venue have drawn crowds ranging in age from 17 to 77. Weekly schedules feature a renfo-cardio-pilates session on Tuesdays from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. led by Clémence Arnaud, a sports coach from L’Orange Bleue in Ruffec. On Wednesdays from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Mélody Giraud instructs a gentle gymnastics class, though participants note the routine is more demanding than the name suggests.
Alain Decron, deputy president of the CALCCM, noted the strong turnout following recruitment efforts. Fifty people attended the initial trial sessions, with thirty-five participants regularly signed up for evening classes.
Sessions Cost 8 Euros or 160 Euros Annually
The sports and leisure sessions operate on an open-access model designed to accommodate varying schedules and fitness levels. Participants can pay 8 euros per individual session or opt for an annual subscription of 160 euros, which reduces the cost to 4 euros per class. The organization also permits payment installments spread across three transactions.

Badminton Section Under Longtime Oversight
Alongside the fitness classes, the CALCCM badminton section meets every Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the local gymnasium. Anita Bloch has overseen the group for approximately fifteen years.
“Here, it’s just for the pleasure of practicing the discipline and of having fun,” Anita Bloch explained, noting that the gatherings are purely recreational rather than instructional. “From time to time we meet other groups from Confolens, Civray or Montembœuf, in friendly matches. Some players, more experienced, give advice but we do not have professors.”
Participation in the badminton group requires a minimum age of 14 and a basic level of fitness. The annual cost totals 43 euros per person, split between a 13-euro CALCCM club membership and a 30-euro section fee. Organizers supply shuttlecocks and offer racket loans for beginners.
Badminton Group Relies on Peer Guidance
The badminton group operates without formal coaching staff, relying instead on peer guidance from experienced members and occasional friendly fixtures against neighboring clubs in Confolens, Civray, and Montembœuf.
