BWF Rankings Update: Jonatan Christie Drops After Asian Games 2026, per Juara.net

Badminton World Federation Rankings Shift After Asian Games 2026

Indonesia’s men’s singles player Jonatan Christie dropped to fourth in the global standings following a difficult campaign at the Asian Games 2026, according to updates released on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. While several prominent Indonesian contenders experienced downward adjustments in the latest Badminton World Federation figures, men’s doubles pair Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin surged upward by 17 positions after capturing gold medals in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Jonatan Christie Slides Following Difficult Matches in Japan

Jonatan Christie struggled to secure points throughout both the team and individual categories at the regional multisport games, winning only two out of six matches against non-seeded opponents such as Dzhumaboi Saidov of Tajikistan and Viren Nettasinghe of Sri Lanka, as reported by Juara.net. The remaining four fixtures ended in defeat, including a notable setback against Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew that altered their head-to-head record to 9:1.

The former Asian Games gold medalist was eliminated in the singles quarterfinals by Loh Kean Yew, causing him to slip from third to fourth place in the world rankings. Before that previous ranking, he had occupied the first position. Despite the drop, Jonatan remains the highest-ranked men’s singles player representing Indonesia in international competition.

Leo and Marthin Climb Seventeen Spots After Double Gold

In contrast to the singles setbacks, Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin advanced significantly in the world rankings by jumping 17 spots to reach 26th place globally, according to some reports, while Bolasport.com recorded their new position at 27th following their title run. Before this ascent, the pair occupied the 43rd spot in the world. The pair collected 12,000 ranking points after securing two gold medals—one in the men’s team event and another in the individual men’s doubles tournament—where they defeated top-seeded South Koreans Kim Won-ho and Seo Seung-jae in the semifinals before overcoming Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang of China in the final.

Kompas.com reported that because individual Asian Games competitions award points equivalent to a BWF World Tour Super 1000 event, the victory allows the Indonesian duo to rely on their own ranking to enter top-tier tournaments automatically as they target qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. This achievement was particularly meaningful as it marked the first time the pair accomplished this feat. They are among the pairs prepared by the national training center to fulfill the quota of two compatriots at the 2028 Olympics, for which qualifications begin on May 3, 2027.

Mixed Standings in Mixed Doubles Dominated by China

Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping retained the number one position, while compatriots Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin moved up one rank to second following the drop of Denmark’s Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Boje to third place. Behind them, France’s Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue placed fourth, Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Supissara Paewsampran ranked fifth, China’s Guo Xinwa and Chen Fanghui took sixth, and Chinese Taipei’s Yang Po-Hsuan and Nicole Gonzales Chan climbed one rank to seventh. Disway Malang noted that Indonesian mixed doubles combinations remain outside the top 10 tier of the world rankings.
