Brycen Goodine Set for Oviedo Debut After Passport Cleared

Brycen Goodine will finally make his official debut for Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto this Saturday against Fibwi Palma at the Palacio de los Deportes, ending a wait of more than a year since he first arrived in Asturias.

Passport Designation Solves Roster Puzzle

The Spanish Basketball Federation has officially processed the American guard’s player license. He is cleared to play in the fixture scheduled for 20:00 local time in Oviedo, Spain.

The club announced that Goodine will compete using a Cape Verdean passport. This designation ensures roster compatibility with fellow American teammates PJay Smith and Brock Wisne.

A fourth American-born player on the roster, Zaire Williams, holds a Jamaican passport. Both players occupy “Cotonou” status under league regulations.

Goodine Brings NCAA Experience and Preseason Scoring

Goodine initially joined the club in the summer of 2025 following a strong season with the Oklahoma Sooners in the NCAA.

He averaged more than eight points per game and shot nearly 43 percent from three-point range. During a standout preseason under Javi Rodríguez, Goodine recorded 10 points against San Pablo Burgos and 37 points against Grupo Alega Cantabria, according to club announcements and regional reporting from FEB and Oviedo Club Baloncesto.

Before his time in Oklahoma, Goodine played in the NCAA for the Fairfield Stags, Providence Friars, and Syracuse Orange.

Technical staff at Oviedo envisioned him as a perimeter threat capable of anchoring an aggressive, high-tempo style of play, contributing significantly on both ends of the floor.

Bureaucratic Delays and Personal Setbacks

Unforeseen personal matters forced Goodine to return to the United States before the official competition began, preventing him from playing his first official minutes in Spain.

He subsequently reached an agreement with Oviedo to return for the 26/27 season, but bureaucratic delays sidelined him for the opening two matchdays of the league schedule. His Cape Verdean documentation was not finalized in time for the opening fixture away against Gran Canaria, and ongoing paperwork delays with the federation kept him out of the subsequent match against Granada.

Ready for the Rotation

Saturday’s matchup against Fibwi Palma at the Palacio de los Deportes marks the official conclusion of a protracted administrative and personal wait, integrating the guard into Rodríguez’s active rotation for the current league campaign.
