Brazil U-23 Flag Football Team Holds First Training Camp Aiming at LA 2028

“O Torneio de Seleções Estaduais será, de fato, nosso primeiro grande teste. Após o camp deste fim de semana, vamos chegar ao grupo final de 25 jogadores. Em fevereiro, desses 25, vamos selecionar 12 para representar o Brasil Onças no torneio. Depois da competição, faremos as adequações necessárias à lista dos 25 e, aí sim, começaremos o ciclo 2027 da Seleção Sub-23,” stated head coach Lucas David.

The Confederação Brasileira de Futebol Americano convened 40 athletes from 27 teams for a two-day training camp on Saturday and Sunday at Parque Ceret in São Paulo, Metrópoles reported. The training sessions run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time, preparing the men's under-23 flag football program for its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Evaluating Forty Athletes at Parque Ceret

The initial roster gathers young prospects from across Brazil, featuring representatives from regional powerhouses such as the Coritiba Crocodiles, Corinthians Steamrollers, and Vasco Almirantes. Over the weekend at the Parque Ceret facility in the Tatuapé district, the technical commission subjects participants to rigorous physical and tactical evaluations.

Filtering Roster Down for the State Selections Tournament

Following the weekend evaluations, the technical staff will trim the group down to 25 players who will form the permanent base of the developmental squad.

This group of 25 athletes will face another cut in February, when selectors will choose 12 players to represent the Brasil Onças at the upcoming Torneio de Seleções Estaduais. Organized by the national federation, the tournament will provide the squad with its initial competitive test against state-level competition. Subsequent adjustments to the remaining 25-player pool will officially launch the 2027 competitive cycle for the under-23 program.
