Bijan Robinson rushed for 145 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Atlanta Falcons to a 45-24 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday night at the Superdome.
Ground Attack Powers Atlanta Past New Orleans
The Falcons never trailed in the contest, building a commanding advantage by controlling the line of scrimmage. Atlanta outrushed New Orleans 207 yards to 50 yards. Brian Robinson added three touchdowns on short runs for the Falcons, who improved their record to 2-2 on the season. The offensive surge followed a 35-14 victory against the Green Bay Packers in the previous outing.
Quarterback Michael Penix directed the Atlanta offense efficiently, completing 15 of 20 pass attempts for 223 yards and one touchdown. A 31-yard completion from Penix to Jahan Dotson in the fourth quarter prompted a mass departure of home fans from the stands.
Early Missteps Hamper Saints Offense
The Saints dropped to 1-3 after falling behind early for the fourth game. New Orleans struggled to maintain offensive momentum as Daniel Carlson missed a 52-yard field goal attempt and running back Kendre Miller fumbled the ball at the Saints’ 22-yard line during a subsequent possession.
The Falcons capitalized immediately on the turnover when Bijan Robinson powered in for a 4-yard touchdown run, a sequence set up by a defensive pass interference penalty called against cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry on third down. Running back Alvin Kamara provided two touchdowns for New Orleans—his first scores of the season—with his second cutting the deficit to 31-17 early in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Tyler Shough finished the night with 286 passing yards and a late touchdown pass to Devaughn Vele.
Falcons Dominate Saints to Even Their Record
The lopsided divisional loss leaves the Saints searching for answers after dropping three of their first four games. Meanwhile, the Falcons evened their record at 2-2, utilizing a potent ground game and efficient play from their returning quarterback to secure control of the matchup from the opening whistle.
