Beaubois Won’t Return to Cholet Basket, Says Guillaume Costentin

Rodrigue Beaubois will not return to Cholet Basket, as the financial and competitive gap between the two parties proved too wide during summer inquiries, according to club sporting director Guillaume Costentin speaking to Ouest-France.

Cholet Inquires About Beaubois Following Roster Departure

Cholet Basket reached out to Rodrigue Beaubois this summer after it became clear that Caleb Daniels would not continue with the club for the upcoming campaign. Guillaume Costentin, the sporting director for the club from the Mauges region, acknowledged in a podcast interview that he inquired about the availability of the 38-year-old free agent. Beaubois left Anadolu Efes Istanbul earlier this year following an eight-year stint that featured two EuroLeague titles.

“I understand that people are asking questions,” Costentin said. “This summer, when we realized that Caleb Daniels couldn’t continue, I naturally inquired about Rodrigue Beaubois.”

Financial Realities Block a Potential Homecoming

Despite mutual local ties—Beaubois emerged from Cholet’s youth system before being selected 25th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks—the reunion quickly stalled over salary demands and competitive level. Cholet Basket operates on a total squad budget of 1.74 million euros for the 2026–2027 season, ranking 14th in financial mass within Betclic ELITE.

Costentin noted that the financial terms presented by the player’s representatives did not align with the French club’s operating framework. “Except that the answer is not at all appropriate for Cholet, that’s all,” Costentin explained. “Salary, competition played, lots of things. (…) He interested me in the sense that the player is available, and beyond his experience, he is a child of the club. He checked the boxes. But the agent’s answer at that time is light years away from Cholet.”

Unresolved Free Agency Follows Anadolu Efes Departure

Beaubois remains without a contract as the season approaches. According to reports, the 2011 NBA champion turned down an approach this summer from a Turkish club not participating in the EuroLeague. During the 2025–2026 EuroLeague campaign, Beaubois averaged 5.1 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per contest.

Early Career Roots and NBA Path at Cholet

Long before winning titles in Turkey and capturing an NBA championship ring with Dallas, Beaubois built his reputation in western France. Before joining Cholet, he played for the OMS club in Pointe-à-Pitre starting at age 7, winning three benjamins championships followed by a minimes title, and was named MVP of the GuyMarGua tournament at age 14 with the Guadeloupe selection. After missing initial selection by the Centre Fédéral unlike teammates Ludovic Vaty and Jessie Begarin, he joined the Red Star and then the New Star of Pointe-à-Pitre, where he won the 2004 cadet championship as MVP, scored 30 points per game in cadets, 28 points per game in juniors, and played for the senior team in the Antillean N3 where he was elected best young player under 21 at age 17. Arriving at Cholet’s training center at age 17 in 2005 from Guadeloupe, the athletic guard broke through during the 2008–2009 Pro A season. He averaged 10 points and shot 47 percent from the field that year under a professional contract, exploding for 15.7 points per game over his final ten matches after shifting to his preferred shooting guard position. His standout play culminated in a 31-point performance against Roanne and an award as the league’s most improved player before the Mavericks bought out his contract.
