The youth team of Badminton Club Lieshout secured its first victory of the season by defeating BC Reeshof 5-1 in the third round of the national youth competition.
Standing Firm After Early Season Defeats
Before breaking through against BC Reeshof, the Lieshout squad—competing as BCL-J1-BouwBaar Beheer in the 25th division of Category D—faced a demanding start to the campaign. The team opened with a 6-0 loss away to BC Gilze and followed that with a 1-5 home defeat against BC Alouette from Best. Despite the lopsided scoreline in the opener, the Lieshout players remained competitive on the court, failing to score fewer than 10 points in any single set and pushing several frames to a tight 21-19 finish. Hilke Klomp and Asja Timmers came closest to breaking through in their doubles match against Gilze’s Onyx Vermeulen and Luuk van Dongen before dropping the contest.
Contasts in Form Against BC Alouette
The home fixture against BC Alouette brought mixed fortunes for the roster, characterized by tight margins in some matches and clear deficits in others. Teun Scheepers and Hilke Klomp dropped a three-set battle in their doubles encounter after a strong start, while Siebe Klomp struggled for rhythm in a straight-sets singles loss. Teun Scheepers provided a bright spot in the singles lineup by overcoming Vika Kovalenko in two straight sets, highlighting the fluctuating momentum of the squad during the opening weeks.
Dominant Breakthrough Against BC Reeshof
The matchup against BC Reeshof delivered the definitive turnaround the squad needed, as the visitors from Reeshof struggled to counter Lieshout’s rising form. Siebe Klomp rebounded from a singles defeat against Mawin Ayeeranant to claim two victories in the doubles format—first partnering with Asja Timmers for a 21-15, 21-12 win, and later teaming up with Teun Scheepers to triumph 21-12, 21-9. Badminton Nederland organizes the national youth competition in a single-phase format this season, returning to a unified structure after dividing the competition into two phases last year. With the victory, Lieshout climbed to third place in the division standings, having survived its toughest early fixtures.
