Avilés judokas captured thirteen medals at the Spanish Judo Super Cup held in Cantabria, marking the teams’ first major trip outside Asturias for the current campaign, according to local reports. The tournament featured competition across cadete, infantil, and alevín age brackets, with the youngest division introduced as a new addition for this season.
Medal Count Shared Across Avilés Clubs
The Club Óscar Fernández delegation also competed in Cantabria with four athletes, though their top results were seventh-place diplomas for Tea Fernández in the -40 kg division and Martín Pérez in the -50 kg category, alongside team members Alma Taboada and David González.
For Judo Avilés, Enol Rodríguez led the way by capturing the gold medal in the alevín category. Teammates Colás Suárez and Diego López joined him on the podium with silver and bronze medals respectively. In the infantil division, Elena Fernández secured a silver medal in the -44 kg class, while Bruno Rodríguez narrowly missed gold to take silver in -46 kg. Rubén Suárez earned bronze in that same -46 kg weight class to round out a strong club performance. Valeria Coronado added a bronze medal for Judo Avilés in the cadete -48 kg division.
Sanfer Judokas Win Medals in Alevín and Infantil Ranks
Judo Sanfer’s cadete squad missed out on the podium, but the club found success in the alevín and infantil ranks. In the alevín -38 kg bracket, Iván Enríquez won silver after claiming clear victories in every match leading up to the final. The -34 kg alevín category featured an all-Sanfer final as Marco Arrojo and Marc Menéndez worked through their preliminary rounds before meeting for the title, with Menéndez taking the gold.

In the infantil -36 kg division, Claudia García claimed the gold medal during her debut competition at this age level. She opened the tournament with two victories by ippon before defeating a French opponent in a tough semifinal. In the final, García fought through a long, intense bout that stretched into the golden score period to secure the victory.
Ricardo García Identifies Technical Growth Areas Before Senior Championship
Reflecting on the performances of the older competitors, Judo Avilés coach Ricardo García pointed out areas for technical growth. «En muchos casos nos falta un poco de cabeza, de pausa. Tenemos que ser conscientes de lo que buscamos en cada combate. Da igual ser de último año o que vayamos mucho al gimnasio… Los detalles de judo marcan mucho», he noted.
