Why this international break friendly matters for Schalke 04
The Bundesliga sits paused for a three-week international break, a rhythm disruption that head coach Miron Muslic is managing with a mix of intensive training, days off, and two test matches, the recklinghäuser-zeitung.de reported. Schalke enters the fixture sitting eleventh in the Bundesliga table with five points from four matches. The club previously defeated regional league side Rot-Weiss Oberhausen 5:2. Muslic is using the match to keep his squad sharp despite missing nine players on international duty, including Edin Dzeko during the opening week of the break.
What to expect from Austria Lustenau at the SUN MINIMEAL Arena
Austria Lustenau currently sits ninth out of twelve teams in their league standings with eight points from seven matches, the recklinghäuser-zeitung.de noted. Founded in 1914—ten years after Schalke’s 1904 establishment—the club hosts the match at their home ground, officially named the Reichshofstadion and currently bearing the commercial name SUN MINIMEAL Arena, holding roughly 5,000 spectators.
Which key Schalke players return to the squad
Head coach Miron Muslic welcomes several prominent names back into the matchday group after they missed the previous test against Oberhausen. The recklinghäuser-zeitung.de confirmed that Loris Karius, Robin Gosens, Kenan Karaman, and Hasan Kurucay all rejoin the traveling squad in Austria alongside a blend of young prospects from the Knappenschmiede academy.
What the historical head-to-head record shows
The fixture marks a complete historic first for both clubs. Austria Lustenau and FC Schalke 04 have never faced each other in any official or friendly competition, allowing both sides to approach the tactical test without prior head-to-head baggage.
