ATP singles player Zheng Rui traveled to Jingshan for his first professional appearance in Hubei province, visiting the Hubei Provincial Tennis School on September 28, 2026. Joined by local players Wu Ruixi and Ding Chen, Zheng led multi-ball training drills and participated in exhibition matches with local students aged eight and nine. At the conclusion of the campus visit, the players presented the school with official tournament mascots, “Jingjing” and “Shanshan.”
Born in the United States in 2004 to parents originally from rural Hubei, Zheng spent part of his early childhood in Yichang before returning to the United States. He chose the collegiate athletics route at age 18 to utilize institutional coaching and training resources before committing fully to the ATP Tour.
Tournament Promotions Boost Local Business Sales
Organizers of the tournament combined professional matches with evening music performances and ticket-stub promotions to extend visitor stays in the city of approximately 600,000 residents. Spectators presenting tournament tickets received discounts at more than one hundred local partner businesses, including free admission to the first gate of the Meirengu scenic area. Local vendors operating food and handicraft stalls near the venue reported increased foot traffic and sales during the concurrent National Day holiday period.
