Italian law enforcement arrested a 39-year-old local resident in Ardea after discovering 1,195 kilograms of cocaine and 25,040 euros in cash during a targeted sweep, RomaToday reported. The operation, executed by the Carabinieri of the Anzio Company’s Operational and Mobile Unit alongside the Marina di Tor San Lorenzo station, unfolded during routine traffic stops that quickly expanded into residential searches.
Traffic Stop at Marina di Tor San Lorenzo Triggers Searches
The intervention began during a standard vehicle checkpoint in the Marina di Tor San Lorenzo district. Officers flagged down an automobile driven by the 39-year-old suspect, whose nervous demeanor during the initial interaction prompted deeper scrutiny. A preliminary roadside search of the driver yielded 2,000 euros in cash, providing immediate grounds to extend the investigation to his private residence in Ardea.
Residential Search Reveals Narcotics and Currency
Upon entering the suspect’s home, investigators uncovered the bulk of the contraband. The total seized money amounted to 25,040 euros, which investigators identified as suspected proceeds from illegal drug distribution. Authorities also recovered a precision digital scale and various packaging materials used for dividing narcotics into street-level doses. Following the arrest in flagrante delicto for possession with intent to distribute, the suspect was transferred to Velletri Prison on orders of the judicial authority.

Broader Coastal Sweep Results in Additional Arrests
The raid on the 39-year-old’s home was part of a broader, high-visibility territorial control operation conducted across Anzio and Ardea with support from the Labor Inspectorate. Law enforcement personnel checked 52 vehicles and identified 86 individuals during the patrols. The sweep extended beyond drug enforcement, netting two other arrests on distinct warrants. A 54-year-old man was taken into custody for evading house arrest and violating a restraining order protecting a victim, while a 36-year-old was arrested on an outstanding prison order requiring him to serve five years and eight months for property and personal crimes.
Weapons Seizures and Commercial Sanctions
Investigators also referred five additional individuals to prosecutors under a standard notice of investigation. Three of these suspects were caught carrying prohibited weapons without justification, specifically two knives and a baseball bat. The remaining two individuals targeted during the operation were local business owners; inspectors filed formal complaints against them for severe violations of workplace safety regulations, resulting in financial penalties and the administrative suspension of a commercial establishment. In a separate minor infraction, a drug user was reported to the Prefecture of Rome after officers seized 0.70 grams of cocaine.
