Royal Antwerp FC head coach Marvin Compper faces rising internal pressure at the Bosuilstadion after a run of five consecutive defeats in the Jupiler Pro League leaves the club sitting 13th in the standings with seven points from eight matches.
Internal Pressure Mounts on Compper at the Bosuilstadion
Antwerp has struggled to recapture early-season form in domestic competition, prompting calls for the manager’s dismissal. Speaking at a press conference reported by Het Laatste Nieuws, Compper acknowledged the friction within the club. “I don’t necessarily feel pressure from the outside, but rather from within,” Compper said. “Of course we are all dissatisfied with the results. If that weren’t the case, we would be in the wrong business. We are keen to turn the situation around, even more so because we are playing in front of our own crowd.”
A Narrow Croky Cup Escape Against KSK Heist
Before turning focus back to league action, Antwerp secured temporary relief in the Croky Cup by defeating amateur side KSK Heist 1-0 on October 17, 2026. Thibo Somers scored the decisive goal in the 65th minute, sliding a shot under opposing captain Van Aerschot to send The Great Old into the eighth finals. Despite the victory, Antwerp had to dig extremely deep against the club, as Heist created significant scoring threats in the closing stages, including an effort from Lukas Baert that struck the goalpost.
The cup success marked Antwerp’s first competitive win since an August 15 victory away at Kortrijk. Compper opted against experimentation by fielding one of his strongest available line-ups, ultimately securing a clean sheet that he noted would benefit the squad’s overall morale following a difficult stretch.
