Alejandro Davidovich advanced to the third round of the Shanghai Masters on Friday, defeating American Jenson Brooksby in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in a hard-court match lasting one hour and 12 minutes, MARCA reported.
Dominant Opening Set Secures Early Lead
The first set mirrored Brooksby’s previous encounter against Jaume Munar, where Davidovich, like Munar, took a 5-1 lead, according to MARCA. Unlike that match, however, Davidovich maintained his advantage to close out the opening frame without allowing a comeback. Infobae noted that the Spanish player established control early with a 3-0 start before breaking again in the sixth game to seal the set.
Davidovich Beats Brooksby in Straight Sets
The second set featured tighter exchanges and competitive rallies up to the seventh game. Mundo Deportivo reported that Davidovich captured another crucial break at that juncture, propelling the 26th-ranked player in the ATP rankings toward a straightforward victory in just over an hour of play.
The result broke a 1-1 head-to-head tie between the two competitors. Brooksby had previously won their meeting in Antwerp in 2021, while Davidovich evened the ledger at the Swiss Indoors Basel in 2025, as detailed by MARCA and Europa Press.
Head-to-Head History and Upcoming Opponent
With the victory, Davidovich became the first Spanish player to reach the third round in Shanghai, arriving just as compatriot Carlos Alcaraz prepared for his debut, according to Mundo Deportivo. The tournament also marks a strong continuation of the Andalusian player’s autumn campaign following a back injury that forced him to miss the North American hard-court swing, per ATP Tour data.

Davidovich will face seventh seed Frances Tiafoe in the third round. Tiafoe advanced by defeating German player Yannick Hanfmann with a pair of 6-4 sets. ATP Tour records indicate that Tiafoe leads their head-to-head series 3-1, including previous victories in Masters 1000 competition.
