Adolfo Onni Vecchi Dies at 60 as Poviglio Baseball Announces Passing

Adolfo “Onni” Vecchi, a lifelong pillar of Poviglio Baseball who spent decades as a youth player, first-team athlete, coach, manager, and executive, died at his home at the age of 60 following a long illness. Born in 1966, Vecchi had been ill for some time but approached his final months with great serenity and composure, according to the local sports club that announced his passing through social media channels and a formal statement.

A Life Spent on the Poviglio Diamond

Vecchi dedicated his life to the local baseball community in Poviglio, where he accompanied generations of players and earned widespread appreciation for both his sporting expertise and human qualities. Outside of the diamond, he had worked at the Scaiola firm, a workplace he shared in his youth with former mayor Cristina Ferraroni, who also offered a moving tribute to him.

The sports society remembered him as a fundamental presence who filled nearly every possible role within the organization over the decades. In a statement released to the community, the club expressed deep sorrow: È con grande dispiacere che siamo costretti a comunicarvi una tragica notizia: si è purtroppo spento oggi, dopo lunga malattia e nella propria abitazione, il nostro Vecchi Adolfo, detto “Onni” dai suoi innumerevoli amici del baseball e non solo.

Funeral Arrangements and Final Tributes

A viewing has been established at the mortuary of the hospital in Guastalla , where visits became available starting at 2 p.m. Following the wake, the funeral services—handled by the Veronesi and Pederzoli funeral home—are scheduled for Thursday morning. The procession will depart from Guastalla at 9:30 a.m. toward the Poviglio cemetery, where a final blessing will take place before his last farewell.

Vecchi is survived by his wife, Antonella, to whom the club and numerous friends and acquaintances have extended their deepest condolences. As the community prepares for the final services, questions remain regarding how the club will permanently honor his decades of comprehensive service, and whether specific memorial initiatives on the Poviglio diamond will be announced by the executive board in the coming weeks.
