A $30 million groundbreaking in the Qantara West Industrial Zone has made H&L the first South Korean firm to establish a manufacturing base within Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE).
Scaling Licensed Sport Apparel for Global Markets
Branded as “H&L Egypt Apparel,” the new production facility is a direct play by the 1988-founded company to scale its output of licensed sports clothing. H&L currently supplies major leagues including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS, moving products to more than 30 countries.
The site will integrate smart-factory technology alongside eco-friendly systems. Officials project the development will generate roughly 2,000 jobs for the local Egyptian workforce.
Leveraging Duty-Free Trade Agreements
The SCZONE was selected specifically for its strategic trade benefits. Operating inside Egypt’s Qualifying Industrial Zones (QIZ) positions H&L to secure duty-free access into the United States.

The plant also plugs straight into the free trade agreement linking Egypt with the European Union. By satisfying strict rules of origin and processing requirements, the company intends to export goods to Europe tariff-free, securing a distinct price advantage across the global sports retail sector.
Diplomatic Momentum from Cairo to Seoul
This industrial footprint traces directly back to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s state visit to South Korea, a diplomatic turning point that elevated bilateral ties to a strategic partnership. Industry observers confirm the H&L plant is the very first tangible manufacturing product of that upgraded relationship to break ground inside the SCZONE.
Mustafah Shaikon, chairman of the SCZONE, emphasized that the project supports the national strategy to drive high-value, export-oriented manufacturing. He promised rapid administrative backing to keep the factory on its operational schedule.
Balancing Artificial Intelligence and Human Sport
Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, H&L CEO Lee Seung-jun tied the major investment to shifting technological currents. He noted that while artificial intelligence accelerates across global industries, the human connection anchored by sports remains vital.
Lee argued that demand for sports apparel will likely climb alongside further AI advancements, cementing the new Egyptian facility as a cornerstone of the brand’s long-term supply chain.
