Nearly 500 athletes and coaches from 47 military units, agencies, and enterprises gathered for the opening ceremony of the inaugural 20th Army Corps Physical Education and Sports Festival, vietnam.vn reported. Representing roughly 8,000 workers, staff, and officers across the entire military system, the participants marked the launch of a multi-sport competition designed to foster camaraderie and operational readiness.

Colonel Nguyen Thanh Truc delivered the opening address for the tournament, highlighting the deep integration of athletics into military life. The organizing committee distributed commemorative flags to participating teams before events officially got underway.

Four Sports and Nine Events Shape the Competition Schedule

Athletes at the festival are competing across four distinct disciplines comprising nine separate medal events. The tournament schedule features men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles in pickleball; men’s doubles and mixed doubles in badminton; men’s singles and men’s doubles in table tennis; and men’s singles and men’s doubles in standard tennis. Opening-day matches immediately followed the opening ceremonies, with competitors taking to the table tennis tables and pickleball courts according to the official program.

Leadership Emphasizes Solidarity and Physical Training

In his opening remarks, Colonel Truc stated that physical education and sports activities have consistently received close guidance and support from the Party Committee and the Command of the 20th Army Corps, alongside unit commanders across the system. He noted that these athletic initiatives run parallel to regular military training, production, and commercial operations.

Colonel Truc emphasized that the festival serves a dual purpose beyond mere competition. He described the event as a celebration of teamwork and camaraderie that allows different units and agencies to interact, share experiences, strengthen internal solidarity, and build a healthy cultural environment within the corps.

Competition Continues Until October 4

Large crowds of supporters turned out at the venue to watch the matches and cheer on the participants. Competition across all nine events will continue daily until the tournament concludes on October 4.
