Guizhou Weekend Openings Launch Regional Basketball Tournaments
The 2026 FIBA OPEN 3×3 international basketball tournament opened its Guizhou division in Changshun County on the afternoon of October 10, bringing grassroots teams together for a high-intensity weekend of play. Organized across two distinct regional sites, the weekend’s opening matches drew large crowds as local organizers and sports federations launched parallel competitions to expand the sport’s reach across southwest China.
Changshun County Tip-Off Draws Crowds to Dual-Court Play
Play in Changshun began at the County National Fitness Sports Center basketball court, where local organizers established a dual-court setup to increase match frequency and viewing density. The tournament runs for two days, featuring men’s adult, women’s, and youth brackets. On opening day, eight elite squads in the men’s adult and youth divisions took to the floor for a rapid schedule of group-stage fixtures. Because international three-on-three rules cap matches at ten minutes of playing time, each possession unfolded at a rapid pace with frequent lead changes and physical defensive stops under the lights.
Xinyangyang leaned on physical drives and interior scoring, while the younger high school players used quick ball movement and aggressive rebounding to stay within striking distance. Xinyangyang featured Sorenson, an adult player from Gabon who used his two-meter frame to contest shots and anchor the team’s defensive structure.
Parallel Guizhou Division Action Opens in Daozhen
Simultaneously, the Guizhou division’s Daozhen station launched its opening rounds at the Daozhen Gelao and Miao Autonomous County National Gymnasium. Beginning at 18:00 local time, the venue hosted eight youth teams for evening matches that featured tightly contested group games and a notable overtime finish. In the opening fixture, the Fan Association team defeated the Qinghuaci M4 squad 13-6 through balanced scoring and tight perimeter defense.
Later in the evening, the Mamba team and the Dengshang Dingfeng squad played to a draw in regulation before heading into overtime. Under tournament rules requiring the first side to score two points in the extra period to win, Mamba converted a late scoring opportunity to secure the victory. Tournament organizers confirmed that the Daozhen bracket will continue on October 11 at 09:00 local time, with organizers noting that Zhou Huan, a reigning national champion and tournament Most Valuable Player from Hubei province, is scheduled to join the women’s bracket for Sunday’s competition.
Coordinating Bodies Expand Grassroots Access
Both regional stops operate under the guidance of the Chinese Basketball Association and the sponsorship of FIBA China. Local coordination in Changshun is managed by the Guizhou Daily Contemporary Convergence Media Group, the Changshun County Bureau of Culture, Broadcasting, Television and Tourism, and the Changshun County Basketball Association. In Daozhen, the local education and sports bureau shares hosting duties alongside provincial media partners.
Officials from both host counties stated that bringing a sanctioned international tournament to local communities is designed to build competitive platforms for regional players, identify youth talent, and link sports programming with local tourism initiatives. Spectators at the Changshun venue noted that the open access allowed local residents to watch high-level FIBA-rules competition directly within their neighborhoods.
