17-Year-Old Lorenz Sanz Makes Pro Debut for ASVEL in EuroLeague

Lorenz Sanz made his professional debut for ASVEL Basket on October 15, logging exactly 1 minute and 10 seconds of playing time during a 111-92 defeat against Real Madrid in the EuroLeague, BeBasket reported.

Debut Against Real Madrid in the EuroLeague

The 17-year-old guard entered the game in the waning moments at the WiZink Center in Madrid, replacing TyTy Washington. Washington had posted a strong individual performance with a 24-efficiency rating, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Spanish powerhouse. During his brief 70 seconds on the floor, Sanz collected a defensive rebound, marking his first official statistic at the professional level.

Rapid Rise Through French Youth Ranks

Sanz’s promotion to the senior squad follows a trophy-laden youth campaign. In the spring, the 2009-born defender helped the JDA Dijon Espoirs capture the U18 French Cup at the Accor Arena in Bercy, followed by a victory at the Trophée du Futur 2026. That consistent play earned him a spot with the France U17 national team alongside Nathan Soliman and Aaron Towo-Nansi under coach Tony Parker at the FIBA U17 World Cup in Turkey. The generation approached that World Cup with a vengeful spirit and a desire to erase the frustration of the previous summer’s Euro, and despite facing frustration against Turkey, Parker subsequently brought Sanz along with him to ASVEL.

Transition to the ASVEL Training Center

Following the international summer, Parker brought Sanz into the talent pipeline at ASVEL Basket in Villeurbanne, where Sanz has been competing under the colors of the Villeurbanne training center since the start of the school year. In his first three Espoirs ELITE appearances on the banks of the Rhône, Sanz averaged 14.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5 passes. After participating in the professional team’s pre-season rotation, he has now officially stepped onto the premier European stage while maintaining his development in the club’s youth setup.

Player Profile

Standing at 186 cm, the 17-year-old, born on September 24, 2009, plays as a point guard.
